The Plunge

“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take a step”. – Naeem Callaway

A step sounds easy, but I understand firsthand how much courage it takes for that small step to happen. What seems like a small step to others is actually a plunge into unknown waters.

I took this picture during my vacation in beautiful Gaya Island, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. As tempting as this view was (even at 630am in the morning), I hesitated to throw myself into the beautiful blue waters. When I finally did, I didn’t touch the bottom of the ocean like I thought I would, the salt water hurts my eyes and I hate it when it got in my nose. I feared barracudas and sea urchins and I’m not a fan of being cold and wet.

What I also found though was that the temperature of the water was perfect, the view was beautiful and somehow floating was not that much work but super relaxing. The salt water also helped me with my bug bites/scratches (it stung just a little, but it did help heal).

Every morning I hesitated to take the plunge, even after finding so much satisfaction once I was in the water. It’s now one of my favourite memories of my vacation.

Each step towards the right direction is courageous. For many it never gets easier. We just get braver, tougher, stronger.
